Elections Canada strives to host an accessible and safe election. In order to reach this goal, COVID-19 measures will be in place to ensure the safety of electors (you and your friends/family members) and election workers. Many of the health and safety measures will be similar to the ones you have experienced during the pandemic.
Here are some more details about voting at a polling station during a pandemic.
COVID-19 measures at all polling stations
At every polling station for the federal election there will be:
- Hand sanitizer stations
- Physical distancing markers
- Only one worker per desk behind a plexiglass barrier
- Election workers wearing masks
- Single-use pencil given to you to mark your ballot
- Single-use masks for you to wear if you did not bring your own mask
If you need an election worker to remove their mask so you can lip read, you can ask them to do so. They will remove it from a safe distance or when behind a plexiglass divider.
COVID-19 measures you can take when voting
When you go to vote at your local polling place, please remember the following COVID-19 requirements.
- Wear a mask
- Practice physical distancing by keeping a distance of at least two metres between yourself and others outside of your immediate household
- Use the hand sanitizer stations when needed
You can bring your own pen or pencil if that would make you feel more comfortable.
What to do if you may be sick with COVID-19
f you may be sick; have been exposed to COVID-19; are immuno-compromised; have not gotten both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine; or are just not comfortable going to your local polling station, you can apply to vote by mail.
